Today we celebrated the lives of 3 very special guys:
Our little man turned 4. He is smart, loving and always busy at work or play. He loves his new baseball team, playing golf and riding his bike to the park. He is focused and persistent in whatever he does: he lines up his golf tees according to color, then hits each ball trying to pay attention to Daddy's special instructions. As I'm sure most 4 year-olds are, he's a bit unpredictable. Will he use his manners? Obey the first time? Be kind to his baby sister? Walk politely beside me in the store?... or will he fall on the floor in Central Market because I say no to the Mardi Gras king cake? It is a challenge to raise a strong-willed boy, but what a joy he is. We love him so much!
Papa turned 66. He is loving, kind and always generous. He loves playing with his grandkids, laughing at their antics and treating them to sips of his coke that he pretends I don't see. He is always willing to give a horseback ride around our hard floors which is certainly not comfortable on his knees. He is sweet to give Will all the birthday attention, although it's his special day too. He is a great protector and comforter, has an amazing, tender heart and says "I love you" a lot. We could all learn a lot from him. We love him so much!
We said goodbye to my "Uncle Weenie". His given name was Marvin Lee, but he told me the story of bowling with my parents many years ago... apparently, my mom typed "Weenie" rather than Marvin on the scoreboard. When there were technical difficulties and an employee had to repair the board, he said, "Okay, Weenie, you're up!". I can still hear my uncle laughing and telling that story.
I have never been so sure that a person was in Heaven. He demonstrated Christ's love for us everyday of his life. He always made me feel loved and special, and apparently, he made everyone else feel that way too. His caring spirit and love seemed effortless and was always genuine. He was humble and had a sense of wonder that made me look at things differently- what seemed mundane or uninteresting suddenly seemed real and special when he pointed something out or discovered new things. What an amazing heritage of faith and love he left for us- I think the best gift a person could leave. How I love him and will miss him.
